Training and employment programs in methadone treatment: client needs and desires

Article Abstract:

The demography, education and training, employment status, income and expenditures and labor market expectations of clients in training and employment programs (TEP) in methadone treatment are presented. Majority of sample clients are white males in their late 30s with high unemployment and low earnings with many having illegal earnings. About 72% had some financial difficulty due to drug use a year prior to admission to TEP and hope that this would solve their financial problems. Policy implications of the TEP are also discussed.

Two cases of clonidine abuse/dependence in methadone-maintained patients

Article Abstract:

The abuse potential of clonidine was evaluated in two case studies. Clonidine has been used to alleviate symptoms of opiate withdrawal. It is claimed to work synergistically with methadone, and is used for its sedative effects. However, clonidine abuse can lead to adverse central nervous system effects aside from its own withdrawal effects such as rebound hypertension. The case profiles presented recommend further studies on the use of clonidine and focus on screening of patients.

Health status of employed and unemployed methadone patients

Article Abstract:
