Transforming the drug round

Article Abstract:

Luton and Dunstable Hospital's drug round was chaotic earlier as there was no particular structure to the drug round, which was taking longer than necessary, thus delaying the patients getting their medications on time. But with a NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement's programme which involved showing the staff a video of themselves working, inefficiencies became clear and necessary improvements were implemented.

Heart failure clinics reduce readmissions

Article Abstract:

Readmissions in heart failure clinics have significantly reduced. The London Chest Hospital's heart clinic has reported reductions in readmissions from 21 percent to 6.5% between 2002 and 2006. The clinic, staffed by two specialist nurses and a part-time pharmacist, provides medication initiation, monitoring and rehabilitation exercises for inpatients and outpatients.

The recruitment situation for nursing graduates seems to have improved as newly qualified jobs are being advertised. Graduate nurses are advised to be open-minded, keep a broad perspective on the type of experience they want and be aware of the changing dynamics in the NHS.
