'In vivo' measurement of gene expression, angiogenesis and physiological function in tumors using multiphoton laser scanning microscopy

Article Abstract:

A multiphoton laser-scanning microscope has been used to provide high three-dimensional resolution of gene function and expression at the surface of a tumor. Cell adhesion and migration, drug delivery, lymphatic and interstitial transport, and angiogenesis have all been observed with this technique.

Quantum dots spectrally distinguish multiple species within the tumor milieu in vivo

Article Abstract:

Fluorescent semiconductor nanocrystals could be customized to concurrently image and differentiate tumor vessels from both the perivascular cells and the matrix. It is used to measure the ability of particles of different sizes to access the tumor.

Tumor-host interactions in the gallbladder suppress distal angiogenesis and tumor growth: involvement of transforming growth factor beta1

Article Abstract:

Transforming growth factor (TGF) mediates the suppression of angiogenesis at a metastatic site. In a mouse study, the level of TGF was 300% higher in mice with tumors compared to mice without tumors. Treatment with neutralizing antibodies against TGF eliminated angiogenesis suppression.
