Physicians at Thomas-Davis Medical Centers P.C., which is owned by FPA Medical Management Inc., are extremely upset at the management of the medical center. The National Labor Relations Board is taking FPA to court because it has refused to negotiate with the representatives from the physicians' labor union. Many physicians have reported long hours, decreasing compensation, and mismanagement of referrals and hospital scheduling. Several physicians have resigned from the medical center.

NLRB ruling is no deterrent, say unionizing doctors

Article Abstract:

Nonstaff physicians are continuing their efforts to unionize even though the National Labor Relations Board has ruled that they do not have the right. The NLRB states that physicians are not employees of AmeriHealth HMO but are independent contractors with no bargaining rights. Union leaders and doctors counter that since the HMO controls physician activities, it has adopted the role of employer.
