Ulcer update

Article Abstract:

Four-layer bandaging has been promoted in the UK for the management of venous leg ulcers, but there is little evidence that it is more effective than other high-compression techniques, according to Effective Health Care Bulletin. Regardless of the high-compression technique used, it is vital to apply sufficient but not excessive pressure. It is becoming clear that community nurses are not necessarily skilled at bandaging, and this is an area where further training is required. Research also indicates that intermittent pneumatic compression can be a useful complement to bandaging.

Yellow peril

Article Abstract:

The U.K. charity Children's Liver Foundation is relaunching a campaign, dubbed Yellow Alert, to highlight the importance of the early detection of liver disease in children. The campaign warns that many babies and young children continue to die from liver disease because their conditions have not been detected early enough to guarantee a full recovery. The main problem is that liver disease presents with similar symptoms to those of physiological jaundice and is often misdiagnosed.
