Unions fight for a safe and healthy workplace

Article Abstract:

AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard L. Trumka believes that employers must underscore the adoption of safety measures and conform to federal standards in order to provide maximum protection to their workers. He further encourages labor leaders to intensify efforts in fighting for their rights and face the vast challenges ahead. Trumka claims that the expansion of the marketplace at a global scale has deteriorated the quality of worker safety and environmental protection provided by most business establishments.

Speak no evil

Article Abstract:

Bill Mottel, chairman of the board of the National Safety Council, says the word 'accident' should not be used as it promotes an adverse safety culture. Mottel adds that replacing the word 'accident' with 'injuries' or 'fatalities' in corporate and industrial vocabularies can help promote safety consciousness since injuries and fatalities have causes and are preventable.
