Article Abstract:
Research on asthma revealed that zileuton may be effective in treating asthma. This drug blocks the production of leukotrienes, which cause smooth-muscle contraction. Patients with chronic obstructive lung disease may benefit from lung reduction surgery. Some patient characteristics are risk factors for death in patients with community-acquired pneumonia. Most cases of pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics despite the rise of drug-resistant bacteria. A practice guideline can shorten hospital stays when used to treat pneumonia patients.
