A gene promotes anxiety in mice -- and also in scientists

Article Abstract:

Mice who are heterozygous for the GABA(sub)A-receptor gamma2 subunit may be a good model of anxiety. That this receptor is involved in anxiety is documented by the fact that benzodiazepines, which bind to it, are effective in treating anxiety.

Cytomegalovirus US2 destroys two components of the MHC class II pathway, preventing recognition by CD4+ cells

Article Abstract:

The US2 protein of cytomegalovirus abolishes the ability of cells to present viral antigens to T lymphocytes by destroying two MHC class II proteins. This allows the virus to escape detection by the immune system.
