Uteroglobin is essential in preventing immunoglobulin A nephropathy in mice

Article Abstract:

Immunoglobulin A nephropathy may involve a deficiency of uteroglobin, an anti-inflammatory protein secreted by the mucosal epithelia of most mammalian organs. In a mouse knockout model, mice with a uteroglobin deficiency developed the characteristic signs of IgA nephropathy.

Retinitis pigmentosa: rod photoreceptor rescue by a calcium-channel blocker in the rd mouse

Article Abstract:

The calcium channel blocker diltiazem prevented the degeneration of photoreceptors in a mouse model of retinitis pigmentosa. Cyclic GMP levels increase during photoreceptor degeneration in this disease, and diltiazem blocks cGMP-gated channels.

Transmitochondrial mice carrying resistance to chloramphenicol on mitochondrial DNA: developing the first mouse model of mitochondrial DNA disease

Article Abstract:

A mouse model of heteroplasmic mitochondrial DNA disease is described. Several diseases have been linked to gene defects in mitochondrial DNA. However, many of the patients also have normal mitochondrial DNA, a condition called heteroplasmy.
