PR39, a peptide regulator of angiogenesis

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the role of peptide PR39 in the regulation of angiogenesis, or the formation of blood vessels. The researchers propose that PR39 inhibits hypoxia-inducible factor-1(alpha) degradation.

Mechanisms of angiogenesis and arteriogenesis

Article Abstract:

The molecular interactions underlying angiogenesis are described, including the interaction of endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells. This research has practical value if researchers discover how to grow collateral blood vessels in heart attack patients or stop tumors from growing.

VEGF gene therapy: stimulating angiogenesis or angioma-genesis?

Article Abstract:

The clinical potential for vascular endothelial growth factor therapy for angiogenesis and arteriogenesis hinges on determining which of the two is the therapeutic goal and how to balance the act. Research shows that the safe course for angiogenic therapy is to aim at stimulating functional and sustainable new vessels.
