Vaginal hysterectomy in women with history of previous cesarean delivery

Article Abstract:

A previous abdominal operation does not increase the risk of complications from a vaginal hysterectomy. During a vaginal hysterectomy, the uterus is removed through the vagina. Some surgeons believe a woman who had a previous cesarean delivery should not have a vaginal hysterectomy. Researchers analyzed the outcome in 221 women having a vaginal hysterectomy, 35 of whom had a previous cesarean delivery. Blood loss, operation duration and hospital stay were similar in both groups. Women who had a previous vaginal delivery had lower complication rates than women with no previous vaginal delivery.

Hysterectomy after endometrial ablation

Article Abstract:

Endometrial ablation may not provide definitive treatment for excessive menstrual bleeding. Endometrial ablation is destroying the uterine lining with heat. Forty-one women with severe menstrual bleeding with no or only minor associated pelvic or uterine abnormality underwent endometrial ablation. One-third of them had resorted to a hysterectomy by the end of five years. It is projected that if women continued to have hysterectomies at the same rate, all of them would have had a hysterectomy by the end of 13 years.

Vaginal hysterectomy for the woman with a moderately enlarged uterus weighing 200 to 700 grams

Article Abstract:

Vaginal hysterectomy is safe for women with an enlarged uterus, according to a study of 30 women. A vaginal hysterectomy is done by removing the uterus through the vagina rather than through the abdomen. Surgery to reduce the size of the uterus may be helpful.
