Wait-and-see prescription for the treatment of acute otitis media: A randomized controlled trial

Article Abstract:

A randomized controlled trial was conducted to determine whether treatment of acute otitis media (AOM) using a wait-and-see prescription (WASP) significantly reduces use of antibiotics compared with a "standard prescription". It was observed that the WASP approach substantially reduced unnecessary use of antibiotics in children with AOM and may be an alternative to routine use of antimicrobials for treatment of such children.

Impact of the Mexican program for education, health, and nutrition (Progresa) on rates of growth and anemia in infants and young children

Article Abstract:

A randomized effectiveness study is conducted to document the short-term nutritional impact of a large-scale, incentive-based development program in Mexico, Progresa (Program for Education, Health and Nutrition), which included a nutritional component. The results indicate that progresa is associated with better growth and lower rates of anemia in low-income, rural infants and children in Mexico.
