Welcome injured workers back to work

Article Abstract:

Several companies are turning to early-return-to-work programs to minimize expenses arising from litigations and reduce medical costs and the number of days wasted due to work-related injuries. Aside from realizing these benefits, companies with early-return-to-work programs are also able to improve employee morale and have enough manpower for jobs requiring immediate attention. These programs can be implemented with the help of outside professionals or using an in-house committee. However, their success would depend on management's creativity, ability to communicate with injured workers, relationship with medical professionals and response to injuries.

Shift workers see the dawn of a new era

Article Abstract:

Shift workers have been found to be more prone to illnesses than those who follow regular working hours. Among the health problems that ail shift workers are stomach ulcers, colds and constipation. Companies such as Eastman Kodak Co and Du Point Co have devised ways to counteract the negative effects of shift work on the minds and bodies of workers. Kodak allows employees to work longer hours on certain days in exchange for some days off while Du Point holds lectures on how shift workers can maintain physical and mental well-being despite their irregular work schedules.

Reduce job stress before it reduces you

Article Abstract:

Job stress has become a major health problem not only for employees but also for safety professionals. New environmental and safety policies, the growing need for recordkeeping and worker training and the corporate economic restructuring have made safety management more complicated and burdensome. People can control stress by changing the way they perceive situations, setting aside time for rest and exercise and keeping their sense of humor. These will not only ease the tension but will also keep people healthy and productive.
