'We're not too posh to wash, it's more like we're too busy writing'

Article Abstract:

Documentation of patient's medical records and charts has significantly increased, and nurses are spending more time writing those records than by the patient's side. Even after spending millions on IT wizardry, the NHS remains a mishmash of different databases that cannot communicate with one another except to show the location of the paper and in order to get access to them, it is necessary to fill out the relevant form.

Back to the floor

Article Abstract:

The senior perioperative nurses at Guy's and Saint Thomas' Hospital NHS Trust took up the challenge of going back to the ward, which turned out to be a rewarding experience. The reward went far beyond pounds sterling 60,000 pounds saving in agency fees as it made them realize how difficult the nursing work can be in practice.
