What's your number?

Article Abstract:

The National Health Service will start introducing new single patient identifer numbers in the second half of 1995. The new 10-digit numbers will replace all other numbers, and will increase confidentiality of patients, as names and addresses will no longer be needed for reference. The introduction of a single identifier will also reduce duplication of information, and different professional groups will be able to use shared records. The numbers will be phased in gradually as people visit their general practitioner or hospital.

Should nurses start running for cover from patients' complaints?: The number of nurses involved in complaints is rising

Article Abstract:

There are indications that the number of nurses involved in complaints is increasing, although many of the complaints received could be considered inappropriate. One reason is that patients are more aware of their right to complain. Many grievances come from employers, managers and colleagues. The Medical Defence Union provides a 24-hour helpline and offers indemnity insurance.
