A Western medicine practitioner in Africa realizes that most of his patients' cultural beliefs do not block his efforts to provide medical care but actually promote good health practices. He also realizes that Western medicine often cannot explain specific diseases or cures any better than can indigenous medicine.

Most traditional healing methods in Africa are used to treat psychosocial disorders in outpatient or inpatient settings.
