With new eyes: the animal rights movement and religion

Article Abstract:

Animal rights activists have been increasingly using religous themes to support their cause. The social problems created by the activities of animal rights activists have hindered the progress of biomedical research. Medical research utilizing laboratory animals has helped scientists develop new cures which would benefit humanity. Animal rights activists have failed to illicit support from different religious denominations.

Article Abstract:

The mystery of human reproduction puzzled biologists and philosophers alike since Aristotle. Aristotle believed that fetuses develop as a result of the combination of male semen and female menstrual fluids. However, by the end of the 19th century, the cellular characteristics of the sperm and the egg were proven and the process of the development of the zygote was explained.

Article Abstract:

The article reviews the contributions the ancient Greek historian Herodotus made to an understanding of the animals of antiquity. Herodotus provided information on the birth of foals, milking of mares, reproduction of fish, the birth of lion cubs, and the practices of those who cared for domesticated animals.
