Withdrawal of albuterol inhalers containing chlorofluorocarbon propellants

Article Abstract:

Albuterol metered-dose inhalers in the U.S. containing chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellants are being withdrawn from the market due to public health concerns about the detrimental effects of CFCs on stratospheric ozone levels. They are being replaced by inhalers using a hydrofluoroalkane (HFA) propellant. A discussion on the issue explains the reasons for this change as well as how the HFA albuterol inhalers compare with the CFC ones.

Rescue use of beclomethasone and albuterol in a single inhaler for mild asthma

Article Abstract:

A study to investigate whether the use of a combination of beclomethasone dipropionate and albuterol in a single inhaler would be as effective as the regular use of inhaled beclomethasone, was conducted. The symptom-driven use of inhaled beclomethasone and albuterol in a single inhaler was found to be as effective as regular use of inhaled beclomethasone.

As-needed use of inhaled beclomethasone and albuterol

Article Abstract:

The case study of young women whose asthma is well controlled during twice-daily treatment with inhaled corticosteroids is described. The patient was recommended the as-needed inhaled beclomethasone and albuterol regimen as she showed concern about the long-term effects of inhaling corticosteroids and was willing to tolerate some increase in symptoms.
