Quality policies and value creation strategies in Italian manufacturing industry

Article Abstract:

The use of advanced managerial criteria in the Italian manufacturing industry has called attention to quality improvement as essential to attaining and retaining market dominance. However, small and medium-sized Italian firms tend to focus more on process improvement and relationships with external factors as revealed by an analysis of experienced quality initiative. As a result of this weakness in the Italian quality control concept, small and medium-sized companies are limited in streamlining their processes while their competitive advantages diminish.

Manufacturing strategy and environmental consciousness

Article Abstract:

Various issues concerning the development of environmentally conscious manufacturing (ECM) strategies are presented. The background for ECM strategies is established by defining a firm's mission, objectives, strategy and policy and identifying its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The ECM strategy should have a global as well as domestic component. Product development life cycle assessment is suggested for determining how the ECM strategies of reduction, remanufacturing, reuse and recycling will be used.

Technology strategy and corporate planning in Australian high-value-added manufacturing firms

Article Abstract:

The implicit technology policies of Australian firms are due to the relative immaturity of Australia's economy. A survey of Australian firms have shown that technology strategies are not extensively employed in corporate planning. Australian firms give more importance to the marketing of new products based on customer preferences. Innovations are considered important than the process of formal business planning. The absence of a fixed business plan results in a dynamic response to fluctuating market conditions.
