The implementation of 'world class manufacturing' principles in smaller industrial companies: a case study from consulting practice

Article Abstract:

Small and medium-scale company utilization of innovative production management techniques is essentialfor gaining a competitive edge. A case study of a domestic appliance company that adopted new production principles is evaluated. It is shown that a successful implementation of the methodologies requires total commitment from both management and personnel. Also, focus must be placed on continuous improvements over singular advances. It is recognized that this technological change must go hand-in-hand with cultural and structural changes.

Irreconcilable differences? Strategic innovations for a publicly insured market

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of biotechnology drugs adversely affects their marketability. Health care for the elderly is the primary market for such drugs, and the more effective the drug, the less likely it will be needed a second or third time. It is recommended that government shoulder the costs of biotechnology drugs for institutional care and promote private sector biotechnology investments.
