Venus Williams, born in Lynwood, California on June 17, 1980 and Serena Williams, born in Saginaw, Michigan on September 26, 1981, both started playing tennis at the age of four under the coaching of their father Richard Williams. They are well known for their powerful strokes, and the two women have generated increased interest in tennis among African Americans.
