Koerpel was a US stamp dealer of Czechoslovakian descent who specialized in new issues. On one trip to his native country, Koerpel bought the rights to a motion picture starring an actress named Hedy Kiesler. Koerpel made a fortune leasing the picture staring the actress who changed her last name to Lamar.

Don't be confused by fiscal cancels

Revenue stamps are used to collect taxes on such as cigarettes, while postage stamps are for the mail. In some countries one type of stamp is used for both purposes and their collection value depends on usage. Honest dealers and strong club associations will help collectors avoid frauds or mistakes.

The saga of the CTO Columbians & other tales

Article Abstract:

A dealer tells the story of a block of uncancelled Columbians which he bought in the 1930s. He regretted his purchase when no one bought them. Then an offer was made providing the buyer could use wooded cancelling blocks on them. The cancelled stamps then became very popular collector items.
