Canada Post honors the 'Spirit of Haida Gwaii.' (Queen Charlotte Island honored in postage stamp Masterpieces of Canadian Art series)

Article Abstract:

William R. Reid was born in 1920 of a Haida mother and a Canadian father. He is well-known for his totem pole restorations and sculptures including 'The Spirit of Haida Gwaii.' The ninth stamp in the masterpiece series issued April 30, 1996 features, a picture of this statue.

Leading broadcast journalist honored

Article Abstract:

The US Postal Service will issue a stamp featuring broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow in Jan 1994. Artist Chris Calle designed the stamp, and the model will be unveiled at a ceremony on Sept 29, 1993, at the Radio-Television News Directors Association convention.

Postmaster Gen Marvin Runyon will dedicate a Hank Williams commemorative stamp on Jun 9, 1993, at Nashville's Fan Fair in Tennessee. First day of issue cancellations can be obtained in Nashville on Jun 9 and then by mail order for one month.
