Chronomaster

Capstone's $59.95 Chronomaster has excellent graphics but few features to distinguish it from the numerous adventure games on the market. The player is Rene Korda, who can create 'pocket universes' as playthings for the rich; each 'world' resembles our own but with different laws of physics and custom-made designs. A distress call indicates that some force has 'frozen time' in two pocket universes, jeopardizing countless lives; the protagonist is surrounded by a pocket of time and can move freely among the worlds. Each Super VGA world is superbly rendered, but the plot is unclear, and the voice acting, although done by top Hollywood talent, is uninspired. The sound effects are weak, and the storyline tends to be intimidating.

Front Page Sports: Football Pro '96

Sierra On-Line's $59.95 front Page Sports: Football Pro '96 sports simulation game has the same impressive blend of statistical accuracy and arcade action as the previous '95 incarnation. This version does have vastly improved graphics with the addition of Super VGA. The game also features Carolina and Jacksonville as playable teams and the Raiders are properly placed in Oakland. The $59.95 '96 version is so similar to the $34.95 '95 version that only the improved graphics warrant an upgrade. The actual game playing is still top-notch, but would have faired well with such enhancements as salary caps or modem play.
