Biosphere 2: a pocket-size planet

Article Abstract:

Biosphere 2 is a glass and metal structure built in Arizona where scientists are attempting to simulate five of the earth's biomes: ocean, desert, rain forest, marsh and savanna. These simulations are intended to help scientists predict how the earth's own environment will react to changes.

Crystal Point Mine in Williamsport, PA, abounds with fine crystal quartz specimens. The area is owned by a father and son team of amateur miners and crystal lovers. The mine is open to the public for a small fee.
