It's not over until the morbidly obese woman works

Article Abstract:

The US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit affirmed the lower court's decision in Cook v. Rhode Island that a woman was discriminated against in seeking employment because she was morbidly obese. The court established a four-part test that requires an application for employment, a cognizable disability, qualification for the position and not being hired solely because of the disability. The claim was brought under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, which applies only to federal employers or employers that receive federal funds, but the same test will likely apply to private employers under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Toward a stoichiometric framework for evolutionary biology

Article Abstract:

A work that illustrates the power of a stoichiometric approach to evolution across multiple scales is reviewed, and then points to important open questions that may chart the way forward in the field of ecological stoichiometry. At the molecular level, stoichiometry links hereditary changes in the molecular composition of organisms to key phenotypic functions.
