Gibraltar - British stronghold
Article Abstract:
Great Britain overtook Gibraltar from Spain in 1704 in an effort to gain a defense post. Control of the peninsula is disputed today. Gibraltar issued postage stamps to commemorate tourist sites and the general who defended it in 1782.

Article Abstract:
Stamps that commemorate Russian and American astronauts and space vehicles were issued May 29, 1992. Ceremonies were held at the same time in Illinois and Russia. Illustrations of the stamps represent history and the future.
