Inboard roundup '96

Article Abstract:

Carbureted inboard motors are quickly being replaced by electronic fuel injected models, which are more fuel efficient and environmentally sound. Some of these new inboards from Crusader, Flagship, Indmar, Marine Power, MerCruiser, Pleasurecraft Marine and Volvo Penta are described.

Outboards: single or twins?

Article Abstract:

Single outboard motors are less costly, are easier to steer, use less fuel and run faster than twins. However, twin outboards offer the safety of always having a backup engine and are the better choice for offshore boating.

Stern drives vs. outboards

Article Abstract:

Outboard engines are available in a wider power range that stern drives and they do not need deck space. Both types of engine are easy to maintain and have adjustable propeller angles. Operating costs are nearly identical.
