Letter seeks Canadian retaliation against United States
Article Abstract:
A letter from Vice Adm Alex Cochrane was sent to the US Sec of State, James Monroe warning of retaliation because of a US invasion of Canada. US troops had invaded Upper York in April 1813. The York postmaster was killed. One week later, Washington, DC was burned by troops led by Cochrane.

The stringent rules of Canada's 1863 postal guide
Article Abstract:
Many early post offices did not have their own buildings but were in stores. The 1863 rules banned barrooms and taverns for use as Canadian post offices. Some of the rules were very restricting. There was a precise way in which stamps were to be affixed and envelop flaps glued down.

Robbing the post office of its due
Article Abstract:
Two envelopes from the 1820s were found which contained circulars from Canadian postal officials citing the illegal practice of some postmasters. Friends and relatives were being permitted postal services without payment.
