The historic value of EFO-related memorabilia

Article Abstract:

Two stamp collections auctioned recently included error stamps with related memorabilia. A 1962 Canal Zone Thatcher Ferry Bridge in which the bridge color was omitted, and a 1979 John Paul Jones stamp with odd perforation were both sold with accompanying US Postal Service correspondence.

Article Abstract:

The US Postal Service coats its stamps with a phosphorescent material, called a tag, which it uses to sort mail by machine. The luminescent overprinting is visible in darkness under ultraviolet light. Untagged error collectors prize stamps that lack this coating.
