A juicy tale

Article Abstract:

The discovery that citrus juice has curative powers and could be used to fight diseases such as scurvy by the Europeans led to the invention of a device that would make easy work of extracting the juice from these fruits called the reamer. Unusual reamers can be found in various precious metals, particularly silver-plate and less frequently, sterling silver.

The art and craft of ribbon dolls

Article Abstract:

The history and varieties of framed three dimensional pictures of ribbon dolls, made as craft items and home decoration in the 1920s and 1930s, including pieces called 'Priscillas', are presented. The usually lady forms are dressed in ribbon, satin or velvet and adorned with pantaloons, feathers, lace, bonnets and bouquets.

Napkin lady line up: dolls with an international flair

The inexpensive novelties, napkin dolls flooded the market after World War II. Their popularity has soared by time, and so have their values. The new issues consist of napkin dolls that are not copies of older models.
