Antique shows: western Canadian style

Article Abstract:

The 1995 attendance at two antiques shows and sales in Calgary and Edmonton in Canada broke existing record. This shows that the antiques industry in western Canada is growing. At both shows, items reflect the different cultures in Canada. Though the rare pieces command high prices, in general these are lower than those in the United States.

The set designers for the television mini-series 'Lonesome Dove' bought and rented antique pieces to recreate the old American west when the series was produced in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They collected furniture, glass, drapes, or commissioned manufacturers to create pieces from old designs.
