Block front furniture

Block front furniture was made in the 1700s and is in demand by collectors for its intricate designs and craftsmanship. Mahogany and cherry were used in construction, and the style was likely originated in Boston by migrating cabinetmakers from Europe.

Bentwood furniture

Article Abstract:

Making furniture using bent wood is a very old technique. Once soaked in water, or steamed, wood can be bent easily. Woodworkers who used this method include Michel Thonet, Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen. Shaker craftsmen also perfected the technique.

Japanese porcelain

Collecting and trading Japanese porcelain was very popular from the 18th century until the 1930's. War rancor led to a total collapse of the market, which is now revived. Valuable designs, brands and periods are analyzed.
