Diamonds of the desert

Article Abstract:

Cacti come in many shapes, colors and sizes. Twelve varieties that work well in arid gardens are described. They include the flat-leafed, shrub-sized beaver tail cactus that grows magenta flowers, the up to 20-foot-tall Cereus hildmannianus, and the spiny hedgehog cactus that produces fuchsia blossoms.

Hope for one of America's rarest plants

Hibiscus Brackenridgei, the Hawaii island state's official flower is on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's list of endangered plants. The ways and means of saving the endangered species are discussed.
