Home Depot's pilot rental program in place

Article Abstract:

A pilot tools rental program launched by Home Depot in four of its stores in Tennessee is being closely watched by industry rental experts who remain skeptical that the program will work. Under the program Home Depot offers over 200 tools for rent and the experts are wondering whether Home Depot will operate the program as a loss leader or as a profit generator. Hope Depot officials, meanwhile, say that they have no plans to expand the program.

Pergament expands in Big Apple despite Home Depot

Article Abstract:

Pergament Home Centers plan to expand its presence in New York City and Long Island by opening six new stores in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Long Island. The decision comes in the wake of the closures of stores by such regional chains as Grossman's and Rickel. Pergament executive Bruce Falk says that instead of the small stores the company opened in 1991 that created some difficulties, Pergament plans to invest in larger Express-format stores.
