Insulation inspections for home energy ratings

Article Abstract:

Poorly installed insulation can impair the thermal performance of building components hence assessing insulation gaps, compression and incomplete fill provides a way to measure installation effectiveness. The energy star home program, HERS are widely used to assess energy efficiency in new construction, and the current amendments to the HERS standards provide a sound and viable means to address a range of insulation conditions commonly found in the field.

Air leakage control: The devil's in the details

Article Abstract:

Some of the most common air leakage problem in the new house are such as base board blues, recessed can lights and dropped soffits, tube enclosure and fireplace enclosures. To avoid dread customer callbacks due to drafty new houses, moisture problems and high-energy bills, builders in Pennsylvania are incorporating air-sealing protocols into their construction process.
