Marvin Lipofsky: The exhibition at the Oakland Museum of California celebrates the 40-year career of this most peripatetic of glass artists

Article Abstract:

Marvin Lipofsky schooled in the techniques of blowing glass as a member of the legendary Harvey Littleton's first glass course at the U niversity of Wisconsin, Madison and explored many forms in his artistic development, achieving a style that defines him as a major abstractionist. His pivotal role is to take glass from the functional and decorative realm into the sculptural realm, fashioning objects that can look positively primordial.

Christopher Ries

Article Abstract:

Christopher Ries's glass sculptures combine art, science and craft. His artworks tend to have a simple, often abstract exterior, but on the inside, there are often complex visual images or refracted light, posing a tension between the outer and inner surfaces.
