New treatments for movement disorders?

Article Abstract:

The 4th International Congress on Movement Disorders discussed current research directions in the treatment of Parkinson's and Huntington's disease. Researchers continue to debate the efficacy of dopamine-replacement therapy in Parkinson's disease. Researchers against dopamine therapy espouse surgical treatments to the disease but their findings have yet to be conclusive. Despite strong disagreements, the Congress provided evidence that clinical and scientific practice are increasingly becoming more cooperative.

The jurors' dilemma: in Andrew Goldstein's case, the choice of guilty or insane was no choice at all

Article Abstract:

In Jan 1999, Andrew Goldstein pushed a woman to her death in front of a New York, NY, subway train. The jury's dilemma of determining Goldstein's sanity at the time of the crime was strong, because if he was found to be insane, he could have been released to the public once he was deemed sane. The jury ended up deadlocked, but they did not realize that he might have spent more time in a mental hospital than in jail because of the nature of the case.
