Embracing the euro

Article Abstract:

A much harder currency likely will be used by Italy very soon and Asian buyers of engineering equipment from that country might do well to buy before the change. In Italy it is thought that the adoption of the euro as currency will be a beginning to being recognized as an advanced economic and national power. Italians feel that they are not taken as seriously industrially as is merited. A final decision has not been made on whether Italy will join 10 other members in the European Union in adopting a common currency on Jan 1, 1999. Implications are great for the engineering trade Italy has with East and Southeast Asia.

Caribbean mangrove swamps

Article Abstract:

Mangrove swamps are plentiful along shorelines in the tropics, consisting of vascular plants that live in shallow seawater. Study of the ecology and biodiversity of mangrove swamps along the Twin Cays yields findings about these little understood ecosystems.

Canes made of all kinds of materials have long been a part of men's fashion. Intricately carved canes of exotic materials and those with concealed gadgetry are most interesting to collectors. A few canes which have sold for thousands of dollars are listed.
