Pleasant Hill in the hills of Kentucky's Bluegrass region near the banks of the Kentucky River has beautifully utilitarian architecture of the Shaker community like houses, workshops, public buildings and furnishings is described. Each Shaker creation to the smallest detail illustrates an effort to make earth more heavenly and Shaker emphasis on community above the individual informed their design.
