Saving the glass slides: How a collection of exquisite historic images was rescued from oblivion

Article Abstract:

Harriet Jackson Phelps who served for many years as photographic editor of the Garden of America realized that the glass slides were a precious and irreplaceable photographic archive of American gardens. She asked permission to search for a permanent repository for the slides in a museum, botanical garden, or library but she was unable to find a home for the entire collection and was forced to divide the slides into small groups.

The funds raised are donated to WomenEs Support Services, a 22-year-old nonprofit organization that serves victims of domestic violence and abuse in the northwestern region of Connecticut.
