Silver & gray: selections for highlighting and enhancing more colorful companions

Article Abstract:

Flower gardening tends to emphasize the presence of color. This can be effective if there is some contrast among the garden's plants so that flowering plants do not undermine aesthetic appeal. How to incorporate plants with silver and gray leaves into a color scheme is explained.

Article Abstract:

Vines can be trained to grow on trees, shrubs, walkways or even to be free-standing. Flowering vines can add attraction to plain pine shrubs that look bare near the bottom. Strong, old trees can also benefit from the decoration. Various techniques are described.

Large, pointed leaves that are part of both flowering and non-flowering plants can add an aesthetic dimension to a landscaped garden. Examples of these plants include hardy crocosmias, gladioli, phormiums and cordylines.
