Solar gardening provides a continuous, year-round food supply and fully utilizes natural resources. The American intensive garden is based on three principles: sunlight is available during every season; each vegetable has an individual growing season; and microclimates benefit the plants.

Butterfly gardening

Growing the right types of nectar-bearing plants is key to attracting butterflies to a garden. Other attractors are rotten fruit, mud puddles and tree sap. All pesticides should be avoided.
