The ceramics research center at ASU receives a major gift

Article Abstract:

The range of 20th-century painters, sculptors, photographers and craftsmen represented throughout Stephane Janssen's house, in the foothills near Phoenix, AZ, is electric. He has recently donated the bulk of his vast collection of contemporary ceramics to the Ceramics Research Center of the Arizona State University Art Museum.

The Japanese pottery tradition and its influence on American ceramics

Article Abstract:

Traditional Japanese pottery making techniques have been instrumental in the development of American artists' own techniques during the 1950s and 1960s. US artists were very much drawn to Oriental styles which emphasized religion such as Buddhism and Shintoism.
