The elderly, family, and society: intergenerational inequity?

Article Abstract:

Intergenerational inequity is generally perceived at the society and family levels. In society, the elderly receive money from Social Security and subsidized housing, food and medical services. Within the family, inequity and negative attitudes are not perceived. Professionals such as home economists who deal with the elderly and their families must educate the people on Social Security policies, recognize and facilitate contributions of the aged, provide support to their care givers and improve the intergenerational relationships.

Providing the elderly with clothing information: which media are preferred?

Article Abstract:

A survey was done to determine which type of media channel the elderly would prefer to receive clothing information. The majority preferred magazines, television and newspapers probably due to the respondents' greater exposure to these channels as compared to audio and video recordings. Other factors which affect the elderly respondents' choices include gender, age, education, residence and participation in educational activities.

Family developmental trajectories: family timing and parent-child relations in young adulthood

Article Abstract:

The timing of the birth of children and their gender affect the trajectory of family development. The perceived control of firstborn and only sons and daughters and last-born daughters is directly related to the age of the mother at her first delivery, while a positive perceived relationship with the last-born daughter is directly related to the father's age at first birth.
