The tunnel greenhouse

Article Abstract:

The tunnel greenhouse is a temporary shelter for plants and vegetables during the winter months. It is built with plastic covering on a wood frame. It must be reinforced to avoid collapsing after a heavy snowfall. Construction tips are provided.

Two projects that can be completed during the winter are discussed. Tips on forcing endive, a winter lettuce, to grown in leaky buckets, are provided, as well as instructions on constructing a cold-frame as a mini-greenhouse.

Cold frames

Cold frames reduce the stress on plants during cold weather and serve as mini-seasonal greenhouses. They reduce the impact freezing has on plant moisture and minimize the wind-chill factor.
