All in a day's work

Article Abstract:

Day surgery is becoming increasingly common due to keyhole surgery techniques, better anaesthetics and more effective painkillers. More than two million operations per year are done using day surgery in the UK. A survey of patients' attitudes to day surgery and found that many felt dissatisfied with the treatment they had received, many were not given the choice of staying overnight, and were not given enough information prior to the surgery. Royal College guidelines defining suitability for day surgery are given, plus questions to ask doctors.
