A history of mid-twentieth century California pottery design is presented, with particular focus on the innovative works of designer Hedi Schoop. Advice on collecting Hedi Schoop pottery is given, with several pieces illustrated.

Pie funnels were used to pour meat juices into freshly-baked meat pies without having the crust collapse. Bird-shaped pie funnels and their various designs are collectors items which could fetch a maximum price of $100.
