A federal Christmas at the John Jay homestead

Article Abstract:

New York State houses the retirement home of the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Jay. Jay built the Bedford house in 1801 for his wife, Sarah, and their five children. Christmas at the Jay homestead included sleigh rides, afternoon teas, formal dinner parties and evening frolics.

Article Abstract:

Decorating the Christmas tree can be enlivened by a dinner with boeuf bourguignon as the main course and gingerbread with unsweetened whipped cream as dessert. The beef bourguignon may be served with noodles or brown rice and can be accompanied by a tossed green salad with homemade vinaigrette.
