Declining prices a reason for shrinking share

Article Abstract:

The furniture and bedding industry is getting a declining share of total consumer spending, mainly because of the falling prices and also because people are spending more on other goods and services like cell phones and prescription drugs. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, of every $100 spent by consumers in 2003, 92 cents went to buy furniture and bedding, down from $1 in 2002.

Options lead to big paydays for top executives

Article Abstract:

The trends in pay packages being offered to the executives in furniture industry has undergone substantial changes. The compensation package was redesigned to include a stock option by exercising which many an executives have multiplied their earnings. A brief study on the compensation of the executives has been furnished.

Bedding execs excel on the compensation list

Article Abstract:

Charlie Eitel's total pay package as Chairman at Simmons for the year 2003 was $30.3 million, $29.2 million of it is from the option exercised by Eitel when Simmons was sold to the investment firm of Thomas H. Lee. Many executives from the bedding industry are also doing exceedingly well.
